QPP has actively expanded its presence at community events over recent times and will continue to grow its profile and place in the community.  Some of the events in this section are specific to an audience and some are much broader.  It doesn't matter to us who the audience is, if the focus is HIV, raising awareness and getting our message out in the community, then we'd love to help out.

This page will be updated as soon as coverage of new events is done.  If you have any events coming up that you think we would like to be involved in, please get in touch on the numbers at the bottom of the page or email us

World AIDS Day 2008
World AIDS Day 2008 was celebrated with several events put on by QPP over the week leading up to and on December 1st.  On Friday 28 November, on the Gold Coast, we had our second Planet Positive at Surfers Paradise in amongst all the Schoolies, which was very well attended once again.  The following day, QPP was represented at the World AIDS Day event in Tweed Heads.  Check out the Planet Positive page for some photos of the night.

World AIDS Day on Monday 1 December was an extremely busy day for QPP, with us either hosting or being involved with six events in five cities across Queensland.  We spoke at a community breakfast in Logan City where we joined the local committee and many members of the community passing through for a sausage sizzle.  We then spent the afternoon in Reddacliff Place outside the Brisbane City Council library where we had singers, dancers, painting to do, red ribbons, stiltwalking cello players, video diaries, poster displays, merchandise for sale...even a Bollywood dancer.  The afternoon was a great success with many hundreds of people passing through and taking an interest.  The canvas will be shared among the HIV sector organisations.

Concurrently with the Brisbane events, there was the first social event in Toowoomba.  We were thrilled to have 9 people attend and we thank Jenny Wilkes of Kobi House and QPP volunteer William for their efforts in helping get this new social group going.

On the evening of World AIDS Day, two Planet Positive events in Townsville and Cairns took place with varying formats.  Townsville opted for a sit down dinner for local community members and service providers at the Arcadian Surf Life Saving Club whereas Cairns continued with a social evening at the Sapphire Bar after the Memorial Service in the Cairns city centre.

Spring CWC
Another CWC fundraiser was held in late September 2008 and the event just seems to get bigger, more glamorous and more electric every time it is on.  Over 300 people packed the Trinity Hall in Fortitude Valley for a cavalcade of entertainment and fun.  Some of the performers were Tracy Turnblad, who beat nerves to perform marvellously with a chocolate cake after an eight year retirement; Dame Sybil von Thorndike, who travelled around the stage in a gigantic wooden bus; the wonderful Betty Page, who danced and sang herself into a spin with her umbrella; the unmissable Divine, and many many others who all gave their time and energy to make the night a terrific success.  QPP's thanks again goes to all the performers, volunteers, staff from the Sportsman Hotel, in particular Paul Kratzmann.

CWC Christmas and ANZAC Day Cabaret
CWC is a long standing traditional event that once again packed them into Holy Trinity Hall in the Valley last December and again in April 2008.  Hundreds of people turned out to see the likes of Toye de Wilde, Wanda d’Parke and Sandy C. Breeze, among many others, put on a show that was non-stop fun from beginning to end.  A few people managed to get past the ferocious raffle ticket seller on the door, but next time, no-one will get past.  Especially since all money raised went to QPP.

Brisbane Pride 2008
Thanks to everyone who came and said hi at our stall at Brisbane Pride Fair on June 14th.  We managed to get about half way through our endless lolly supply and dispersed a lot of information to the community.  There are a few more Pride Fairs on soon, in Cairns and Maroochydore, so we will catch you there.
Cairns Tropical Pride
The inaugural Cairns Tropical Pride Day was held in September 2007 and was such a huge success that this year it will be a Pride Weekend.  QPP went up and there was a lot of interest in the work we do and how we can best work for PLWHA in the tropical north.  As the photos show it was packed full of people wandering around the different activities like information stalls, fashion parades and local business stalls.  Hopefully Tropical Pride this year will be bigger and better…although if it was not quite as hot, that would be fine too.
Packing Party
In November 2007 QAHC & QPP held the first Packing Party, which was an opportunity to replenish our cupboards of resources for the busy summer season.  The day was well attended with plenty of prizes, fun and games on offer.  The second packing party will be held on Feb 9th, so look out for details.
